Have you decided it is time to sell your home? Then it’s time for you and your family to get to work and get your home ready to be placed on the market. You may think selling your home is as easy as finding a real estate agent and placing a for-sale sign in your front yard. But to make sure your home goes on the market and gets sold quickly, you need to do more work than that.
- Find A Real Estate Agent: First of course, to get your home on the market, you need to find the best real estate agent. - Strategize When to List: Once you have found your agent, you need to begin strategizing when the best time is to list your home. Your agent’s expertise will help guide you toward the best time to list your home. They will also check out the market values by checking comparable properties in the area that are selling to make sure your home is listed at the correct price.
- Check Your Curb Appeal: When searching for a home, buyers tend to judge a book by its cover, meaning if they do not like the way your home looks on the outside, this may turn them away from buying your home. So go ahead and repaint areas of your home that could have chipped or repaint your door to a more appealing color. If you are not sure how to improve your curb appeal, talk to your real estate agent for tips.
- Declutter and Depersonalize: Once you have worked on the outside of your home, it’s time to work on the inside of your home for it to be sold. First, start by decluttering your space. Cleaning your counters, windowsills, baseboards, tables, and other visible areas. After cleaning, if your home is overflowing with items, it may be time to get rid of or donate some of your belongings or place them into a storage unit. If you do not put away your items or clean, a buyer may be turned away by a cluttered, messy home. Next, you should depersonalize your home by removing items such as family photos. Removing personal items helps the buyers picture themselves in your home, making them more likely to purchase your home. If you leave your items out, a buyer may not be able to picture themselves living there and may not purchase your home.
- Repaint and Touch Up: If you chose to paint your home with bold or unusual colors, it’s time to repaint with some neutral colors. Repainting your home with neutral colors may not be your style, but it again helps a buyer picture themselves in your home. Next, touch up any scuff marks on your walls, baseboards, or doors. If you’re not doing a full repaint job, this is still an essential step to get your home ready to sell and impress buyers. Finally, fix any loose handles or damage to your home. - Hide Valuables: You cannot trust every person who enters your home, which is true when it comes to buyers. So, to be safe, you should hide all of your valuables or store them in a place away from your home. Hiding your valuable items will help you keep peace of mind while people come in and out of your home.
- Staging: Your style may not be appealing to everyone. That’s why you should consider hiring a professional home stager. A home stager will examine your home and determine what items can be staged and what items they need to bring to make your home the most appealing to buyers.
